Portals: Clear Sight is the genesis procedural art series by the digital artist 2388. Working as a "photographer of unreal worlds," 2388 captures scenes rooted at the intersection of the mythological and the mundane. The series is built upon an unchanging stage - a monumental, sacred space, which serves as a consistent setting for a systemic exploration of a singular, profound moment.

At its heart, the series is a Gnostic exploration of perception. It is built on the thesis that "clear sight" is a faculty of awareness required to see past the material world into deeper levels of reality. This narrative is told through the dialogue between two central figures: 'The Initiate,' a soul standing at the threshold of a great mystery, and 'The Distracted,' a figure embodying the contemporary state of obliviousness, present in the sacred space but blind to its significance. The Portal itself is the embodiment of this mystery—a gateway to a higher reality, a central architectural element, a stargate.

Each piece in the series is a unique, 1-of-1 output. Variable traits—such as the state of the Initiate, the architecture of the Portal, and the presence of symbolic totems and other esoteric signs—are recorded permanently on the blockchain. Among these variables is the rare appearance of the artist's personal sigil, the image of Punk2388, an anachronistic mark that links the timeless allegorical scene to its contemporary, on-chain creator. This system ensures that while the stage is constant, the story is never the same.

Ultimately, the series poses the same choice to the viewer that is faced by its characters: to stand as witness at the gateway, or to turn away.
2388 is a digital artist from New Zealand. His practice treats 3D software as a virtual camera, allowing him to stage and photograph unreal worlds.

A long-standing participant in the web3 space, 2388 is an early holder of CryptoPunk #2388. He views the asset not just as a collectible, but as a foundational piece of digital identity and a cultural touchstone for the on-chain art movement. This connection was further explored when his work was selected for the "Art of Punk" group exhibition in Austria. The show, which celebrated art by the Punk community, included a lineup of artists such as Claire Silver and Tom Sachs.

His current series, Portals: Clear Sight, is a procedural exploration of esoteric themes, using generative elements to create unique variations of a core allegorical scene.
